New Types of Cabbages to Try in 2012

There is no denying that small green cabbages are the most ubiquitous, and for many farmers, the most desired by their market.
However, if you are interested in providing your market with some new types of cabbage, we are offering a few new types.

We carry savoys, and now we are offering a semi-savoy. A cross between savoy and green cabbage, very mild, sweet, and possibly a gateway cabbage- for customers that are stuck on green cabbage, this variety might get them hooked on savoy just in time for winter crops.

Savoy Ace Improved F1 80 days
2-3 lbs, 7 x 6", resistant to Heat, Cold
good field holding ability
wide adaptability
early maturity
very successful in all our slotted trials this season
easy to harvest
great protection
medium savoyed leaves
creamy dense interior.
versatile, dense at a small to medium size.

We are also adding a pointed red cabbage. The color of this cabbage is intense. We thought that a red pointed would be easier to sell than a green pointed cabbage. A total novelty to get customers and kids excited in cabbage. Would be great for a diverse CSA box.

Kalibos (OP) 105-110 days
pointed cabbage
saturated beautiful purple red coloring
good interior density
sits high off the ground
has a great protective wrap
works best for fall harvest
has a high sugar content and good flavor.
